The choice of Christian denominations is due to the fact that representatives of these denominations were the most prominent in the Soviet peacemaking movement in the late 1940s and early 1960s. The goal is to determine the tasks of trips, their features, and results. The work also demonstrates previously unknown facts in historiography, based on archival data, concerning the continuation of cooperation in the field of medicine after the rupture of diplomatic relations between the USSR and China.

The abundance of information and the range of periodicals which enable to trace the dynamic development of epidemics, statistics of diseases and public opinion about current events and activities is highlighted.

The “Last Epidemic”: USSR and “International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War” in the first half of the 1980s

The paper analyzes the history of Soviet initiatives within the movement “International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War” (IPPNW) in the first half of the 1980s. Drawing on documents from the Russian State Archive of Modern History and periodicals, the authors state that the emergence of this movement was connected with the settlement of relations between the USSR and the USA in the field of disarmament, particularly with the signing of the SALT-1 Treaty in 1972.
